Jury Scam alert -

The Santa Barbara Superior Court has received complaints about individuals trying to scam members of the public by pretending to be court officers or officials. The Jury Services office of the Santa Barbara Superior Court does not call citizens to request payments for failing to appear for jury duty. California law does not permit citizens to pay a fine in lieu of jury duty. If you receive such a call simply hang up and, if the scammer persists, call your local law enforcement agency. Notice to Jurors:

Prospective jurors summoned for jury service can expect to receive their jury summons in postcard form. Please check your mail for a postcard with important instructions to fulfil your jury service. Visit the Jury Services page for more information.

SUPERIOR COURT SEEKS APPLICANTS FOR THE 2025 – 26 CIVIL GRAND JURY
Interested Applicants Must Apply by Monday May 05, 2025 Santa Barbara, CA – Superior Court Executive Office, Darrel E. Parker, announces the recruitment for the 2025-2026 Civil Grand Jury term. As an essential pillar of the community, members of the Civil Grand Jury act as a guardians of government operations, ensuring accountability, transparency, and integrity in the use of public tax dollars.

Grand Jurors investigate local issues and produce comprehensive reports with findings and recommendations to enhance government operations. Responsibilities include examining various aspects of county and city government (including special districts and joint powers agencies). No prior jury experience or training are required to serve. Applicants should be prepared to commit 25-30 hours a week conducting investigations, interviews and attending grand jury meetings. Responsibilities include actively gathering data, writing, and/or editing reports, and conducting investigations or interviews.

Qualified applicants must be:

• U.S. citizens, age 18 or older.
• Able to read and speak English.
• Santa Barbara County Residents for at least one year.

The new Civil Grand Jury will begin on July 1, 2025, and will serve through June 30, 2026. Interested individuals can find more information and submit their applications online at www.sbcgj.org/application.asp.

Applications for the 2025-2026 Civil Grand Jury term are now open and will be accepted until Monday May 5, 2025. The Court’s Jury Services Division coordinates applications.
