MEDICAL PLANS

Plan Comparison

Blue Shield EPO (Exclusive Provider Organization)

  • You want to be able to see any provider, even a specialist without a referral as long as it is in-network
  • You are happy with the selection of network providers.
  • You don't see any doctors that are out-of-network.

Blue Shield HDHP (High Deductible Health Plan)

  • You want to be able to see any provider, even a specialist, without a referral.
  • You are willing to pay more to see out-of-network providers.
  • You want tax-free savings on your healthcare costs.
  • You want to build a savings account for future healthcare costs for you and your eligible family members.
  • You want an extra way to add to your retirement savings.

DENTAL PLANS

Choose Your Plan

Delta Dental-DHMO-DeltaCare USA

If you elect the DHMO plan, you must select a DeltaCare USA primary dentist.

Delta Dental PPO

  • Reimbursement is based on PPO contracted fees for in-network PPO dentists.
  • Contracted fees for Delta Dental Premier dentists.
  • Program allowance for non-Delta dentists.

VSP VISION CARE PLAN

Plan summary

The Court offers one vision plan through VSP.

  • Eyeconic is the preferred VSP online retailer for in-network shopping using your vision benefits.

LIFE INSURANCE

Employer paid basic life insurance of $50,000 for most employees.

  • Additional voluntary employee paid Supplemental Life and AD&D; Spouse and Child Life.

LONG TERM DISABILITY

The Court covers all regular employees working 20 hours or more with long term disability insurance plan.  The plan pays 60% of monthly earnings with a minimum of $100 to a maximum amount depending on your job classification.  You must be disabled for 60 days before the plan begins to pay benefits.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS

  • A healthcare FSA allows you to set aside tax-free money to pay for healthcare expenses you expect to have over the coming year.
  • A dependent care account helps to pay for work-related day care expenses.  Eligible expenses include not only childcare, but also before and after school care programs, preschool, and summer camp for children under age 13.  The account can also be used for day care for a spouse or other adult dependent who lives with you and is physically or mentally incapable of self-care.

CHUBB LIFE INSURANCE WITH LONG-TERM CARE

This benefit works by providing you Term Life Insurance and a Long-Term Care benefit.

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTARY VOYA FINANCIAL PLANS

Personal Insurance Accident (PAI)

  • Personal Accident Insurance allows you to purchase additional life insurance for yourself or dependents.

Compass Accident

  • Insurance helps you pay for the out-of-pocket costs you may experience after an accident and depending on the type of sustained injury.
  • This plan has an annual wellness benefit that pays you $2100 for completing a screening, an additional $100 for a covered spouse and $50 for a child.

Critical Illness

  • Insurance pays a lump-sum benefit if you are diagnosed with a covered illness or condition. 
  • The lump-sum amount can help to protect against the financial stress of medical expenses, childcare, rent, and any other everyday expenses.
  • This policy offers an annual wellness benefit of $150 reimbursement for each covered employee and spouse who completes a covered health screening.  Child benefit is 50% of employee amount with a maximum of $300 in child wellness benefit.

Hospital Indemnity

  • Coverage provides a benefit for a hospital stay.  This voluntary plan is separate from your blue Shield hospital benefit. 
  • The plan pays a daily benefit if you a covered stay in a hospital, critical care unit or rehabilitation facility.  The benefit is determined by the type of facility and the number of days you stay. 
  • The lump sum payment can be used for any everyday purposes.
  • This coverage has an annual wellness benefit if you complete a preventive health screening test.  Employee, $50, once a year; Spouse, $50, once a year and Child, $25 per child, to a maximum of $100, once a year.

MetLife Pet Insurance

Pet insurance can help reimburse you for covered vet visits, accidents, illness and more.  Choose the plan that works for you and your pet. 

SBCERS

The Santa Barbara Superior Court Employees' Retirement System (SBCERS) was organized under the provisions of the County Employees' Retirement Law of 1937.  Membership is mandatory for all regular employees who work at least 40 hours per pay period.  The Court and employees make contributions to the retirement fund.

The employee's contribution rate is a percentage of salary based on age at entrance to Court service and is automatically deducted from your paycheck.  This deduction is pretax.  SBCERS is a defined benefit plan that provides lifetime benefits when you retire.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION

The Court is a plan sponsor of the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan and OBRA Plan.  The plan is offered through Empower.  All regular employees may participate in the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, the OBRA Plan is a Social Security Compliant plan for extra help employees.
